We’re excited to introduce Sarah Alley, one of the incredible guides on our Lasting Adventures team. Growing up among California’s forests and mountains, Sarah developed a deep connection to the outdoors early on. Today, she brings that passion — along with a sense of humor and a spirit of adventure — to every trip she leads. Let’s meet the guide: Sarah Alley.
Sarah’s Journey into Guiding
Sarah’s love for the outdoors started young, thanks to family camping and hiking trips throughout California. Later in life, she found herself craving a change in direction and decided to transform her favorite hobby into a full-time career, guiding others into the wilderness she knows so well.
Why Lasting Adventures?
When asked what she loves about guiding with Lasting Adventures, Sarah points to the freedom and trust the company gives its guides.
“I like that the guides have the freedom to work and plan trips without being micromanaged,” she says. That independence allows her to craft personalized experiences for every group she leads.
Life Beyond the Trail
Outside of guiding, Sarah loves spending time reading and hanging out with her friends and family. If she could be any animal, she’d choose a dog — a creature known for its loyalty, energy, and endless enthusiasm for adventure.
Favorite Views and Trail Meals
One of Sarah’s favorite meals to cook in the backcountry is anything involving noodles or pasta — simple, hearty, and perfect after a long day on the trail. And when it comes to breathtaking scenery, nothing beats Glacier Point in Yosemite for her, with its sweeping views of Half Dome and the High Sierra stretching to the horizon.
Guiding Wisdom
For Sarah, the role of a guide goes far beyond leading the way. She believes some of the most valuable services guides provide include trailblazing, cooking, and keeping guests safe in unfamiliar territory. Her advice to guests?
“Bring a good water bottle or bladder — and leave the extra chairs and unnecessary gear behind.”
Always Learning
Sarah credits much of her growth as a guide to learning from those around her.
“I always learn tips and tricks from the other guides I work with or alongside out in the field,” she says. When it comes to what makes a great guide, Sarah highlights three essential qualities: a strong sense of humor, loyalty to the companies they represent, and the motivation to always better themselves and others in the outdoors.
We’re lucky to have Sarah as part of the Lasting Adventures family! Stay tuned for more “Meet the Guide” features as we spotlight the passionate leaders behind your next big adventure.
